What Golden Valley, MN Locals Think About The Retreat Strength Gym

The Retreat Strength Gym FAQs

1. How do I get started at The Retreat?

Making lasting changes in your health and fitness takes frequency and engagement. Our onboarding process is designed to make sure The Retreat is the right fit for you and to set you up for long-term success. Here's how it works:

  • Visit & Chat - Stop by the gym, meet the trainers, and talk through your goals and concerns. This is your chance to see if our approach feels right for you.
  • Assessment - In a personal training session, we'll get to know how you move, what works best for you, and how your body responds to different exercises.
  • Foundation - A mix of personal and small group training to refine your technique, build confidence with the equipment, and deepen your understanding of your body's signals. This phase ensures we continue adjusting to your needs while integrating you into the gym.
  • Membership - When you're ready, you'll transition into small group training. Your workouts will be supervised, your program will be continually updated, and you'll keep progressing in a way that's steady, sustainable, and personalized to you. This process ensures you feel confident, supported, and fully prepared to train in a way that works best for you.

2. What can I expect from a training session?

It'll be tougher than you expected but better than you hoped for.

Your personalized program is delivered through our gym app, so when you arrive, you'll check in with a coach, follow your plan for warm-up, and get started. If something feels off that day-whether it's energy levels, soreness, or anything else-just let us know, and we'll adjust your plan accordingly. Everyone in the session is following their own program, working at their own pace, but training together in the same space. You'll have the structure and support you need while maintaining the flexibility to focus on what works best for you.

3. How do I stop being a member?

If you feel that our training style or approach isn't the right fit, we're happy to help you find a gym or program that better suits your needs. Our priority is making sure you're in the best place for your long-term success.

Canceling is simple and hassle-free. Just submit a cancellation form at least seven days before your next billing date.

4. Is The Retreat right for me?

We don't know yet-but we'll figure it out quickly. If it's not the right fit, we'll help you find a gym or training approach that better suits your needs.

5. I'm an introvert. Will I feel out of place?

Not at all. In fact, many of our members are introverts, and they've naturally gravitated toward the structure and environment of The Retreat. The coaching model allows for personal focus while still training alongside others in a way that feels comfortable, not overwhelming.

6. I've tried before, but nothing stuck. How is this different?

We specialize in making this the last time you have to "start over."

Our goal is to help you find a training approach you enjoy- one that fits into your life instead of feeling like a struggle. If we're not the best fit, we'll help you figure out what you need and where to find it, whether that's another gym or even a different kind of movement practice outside of a gym setting.

7. What's your photo and video policy?

If we're taking photos or videos for marketing, we'll notify you in advance. If you've opted out, we'll make sure you're not included. Members can record themselves for form checks (since we don't have mirrors), but they must ensure no one else is in the shot without permission. Any other recording needs to be discussed case-by-case. Our priority is maintaining a space that respects privacy and consent.

8. I don't feel comfortable in gyms. Will this be any different?

If you already know what makes traditional gyms uncomfortable for you, come see if The Retreat is different. We've designed the space and approach to be welcoming and supportive, but if you decide it's still not the right fit, we'll help you pinpoint what you're looking for in a gym experience so you can make a more informed choice moving forward.

9. I have an injury. Should I wait before starting?

Check in with your healthcare provider first. After your initial assessment sessions, we can collaborate with them to ensure your program aligns with their recommendations. We have extensive experience working with individuals managing chronic pain, preparing for surgery, or recovering post-surgery.

10. I'm really busy. Should I even try to fit this in?

Ironically, being busy might be the best reason to start. Strength and movement can help you manage stress, improve focus, and make the rest of your life feel more manageable. If getting stronger and feeling better is a priority, we'll help you find a schedule that works.
